Mirroring Ballarat’s rich history, the Ballaarat Mining Exchange was built between 1887-1889 and was used for trading of shares in mining companies during the Gold Rush era. Retaining many of the heritage features, the Ballaarat Mining Exchange continues to host a multitude of events.

Established in 1859, and independently run, membership to the Ballarat Mechanics’ Institute gives access to our lending library and heritage books and archives, and discounts on events and hire. Sitting proudly under the watchful eye of Minerva, the Ballarat Mechanics’ Institute has welcomed a diverse group of people through its doors, from the founding fathers, to miners and others seeking knowledge through education.
