Reading Western Australia in the National Past: Inaugural Lecture
The Governor Kim Beazley AO will open this inaugural lecture. Dr Mathew Trinca will speak on his chosen topic ‘The experiences and life stories of Western Australians are fundamental to understanding Australia’s continental and national history.....The nation’s story is not a single thing but a work in common, composed of the many-stranded stories of people across the country who contribute to the unique character of Australian society.'

The lecture will be held at the University Club of Western Australia Auditorium

We get to view it in a new light as many spaces have now been returned to the renowned architect Charles Sierakowski’s original vision for the building.

(ARC Linkage Project LP160100078)

The Australian Research Council (ARC) Linkage Program funded Collecting the West: How collections created Western Australia (ARC Linkage Project LP160100078) project has worked on the history of collecting in and from Western Australia. One result was a series of co-curated display cases and associated digital content in the Stan Perron WA Treasures Gallery, Hackett Hall, Boola Bardip. Join us in this discussion between Corioli Souter (WAM) and Andrea Witcomb (Deakin Uni) on the ways in which the project’s findings informed the curatorial rationale for the display and the important role museums play in the impact narratives of funded research.

Commencing at the John Curtin Gallery, JCG staff will lead you on a guided tour of the University’s recent and most loved public art and sculptural works including iconic pieces by Howard Taylor and most recent works by Walter Jack, Warren Langley and Tanya Schultz (Pip n Pop). 

The tour will run 9.30-11.00am.
Tour hosted by Matthew McAlpine.

Fremantle is a beautifully preserved maritime town that hides a chequered history behind the facades. Crimes of Fremantle Walking Tour explores the dark events that have taken place since colonial times, from riots and theft to murders and mutinies.
