A/Prof Michael Vagg

Director, Pain Matrix / Pain Specialist

Associate Professor Michael Vagg is a specialist pain medicine physician and a rehabilitation physician. He has a long-term interest in issues of consumer protection and evidence on pain medicine. He graduated from Monash University in 1994 and spent several years as a uniformed medical officer in the Royal Australian Air Force before undertaking vocational training.

Michael is a Director, Pain Matrix a private comprehensive pain service in Geelong.Clinical Director of Rehabilitation and Pain Services at the Epworth Geelong; a Director of Professional Affairs at the Faculty of Pain Medicine, Australian New Zealand College of Anaesthetist, where he was Dean in 2020 – 2022 and he is Director of Goodwin Munro Consulting a medico legal consulting practice. 

He holds an appointment as Conjoint Clinical Associate Professor at Deakin University School of Medicine and is Chair of the Medical Advisory Committee for Epworth Geelong. 

Michael writes regularly for The Conversation as a health and medicine columnist. His areas of clinical interest include soft tissue pain, postamputation pain and interventional pain treatments.
