TONY HANSEN

Noongar Elder

Tony Hansen, an Aboriginal man connected to the Noongar Country and people of the South-West of Western Australia; with tribal links and connections to the Wilman, Koreng, Minang, Great Southern Noongar and Wagyl Kaip tribal boundaries, and connections to the South-West Boojarah tribal boundaries of Wardandi, Pibelmen, Busselton, Margaret River and Manjimup region. 

Tony was born in Katanning in 1967, and in 1970 was forcibly removed from his mother, grandmother and grandfather's care, to be placed into Marribank Mission, formally known as Carrolup Native Settlement Institution. Tony remained there for the next fifteen years of his childhood. He is a Stolen Generation Survivor, and his children are descendants of the Stolen Generation. 

Tony is the Co-Chair of the Bringing Them Home Committee WA (BTH), and currently Deputy Chair of the Western Australian Stolen Generation Aboriginal Corporation (WASGAC) in WA. He is Committee Member of Yokai addressing Justice Truth and Healing, and a Member of the Healing Foundation Stolen Generation Elders Reference Group Committee on a National Platform. 

Tony is the Chairperson of the Carrolup Elders Reference Group (CERG) at Curtin University, BHP Curtin University Centre for Truth-Telling, Healing and Reconciliation Steering Committee and External Advisory Group Committee Member at the Fremantle Football Club. Previously, Tony has acted as a Board Member at Wungening Aboriginal Corporation in Perth. 

For the last ten years, Tony has been a working party member of the South-West Aboriginal Land & Sea Council (SWALSC) for the South-West Boojarah Group, in partnership with the Native Title Claim for Noongar people and the State Government. 

He was recently appointed Director of Karri Karrak Aboriginal Corporation (formerly known as South-West Boojarah Group).
