James Brown

Chairman, Invictus Australia


James Brown is an Australian national security leader who most recently served on the board of the Australian Strategic Policy Institute and as CEO of the Space Industry Association of Australia. He formerly held research roles at the Lowy Institute and US Studies Centre, as well as serving as an Army officer in Afghanistan, Iraq, and the Solomon Islands. Between 2017 and 2019 he led the modernisation of Australia’s largest veteran’s charity, the RSL, as its youngest ever elected President. He is the Chairman of the veteran’s organisation Invictus Australia. 

James is the author of Anzac’s Long Shadow, which examined Australian civil-military thinking, and wrote a Quarterly Essay on how Australia makes the decision to go to war.
