Dr Frédéric Grare

Senior Research Fellow, ANU National Security College


Dr Frédéric Grare is a Senior Research Fellow at the ANU National Security College, a Non-resident Fellow at the European Council on Foreign Relations, and a Non-resident Senior Fellow at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. His research focuses on Indo-Pacific dynamics. Grare served as an Advisor at the Center for Analysis, Forecasting, and Strategy of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and as the head of the Asia bureau at the Directorate for Strategic Affairs in the French Ministry of Defense. Before joining the French MEA, he was the Director of the South Asia program at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. Grare also served at the French Embassy in Pakistan and as the Director of the Center for Social Sciences in New Delhi. His latest book, 'The Indian Ocean as a New Political and Security Region,' co-written with Jean-Loup Samaan, was published in 2022.
