Allegra Spender MP was elected Independent Member for Wentworth in May 2022, on a platform of climate action, political integrity, future-focused economic reform, gender equity and decency.
Before her election, Allegra was a business analyst at McKinsey and a policy analyst at the UK Treasury, then Managing Director at Carla Zampatti Pty Ltd, chair of the Sydney Renewable Power Company and CEO of the Australian Business and Community Network.
Since entering parliament, Allegra has driven stronger action on climate and the environment, strengthening reforms to the Climate Change and Nature Repair Acts, and successfully advocating for policy changes to help households reduce their power bills through rooftop solar and home electrification.
Allegra has also been an outspoken advocate for tax reform and helped bring the issue of wider reform back onto the national agenda. Recognising that the major parties were wedged in a standoff, Allegra embarked on an independent tax reform process, bringing together leading economists, business leaders, unions, social sector organizations and environmental groups in a series of roundtables. She will be releasing a Green Paper on tax later in the year.
Allegra is a member of the House Standing Committee on Economics and the Joint Standing Committee on Migration. She is married with three children and in her spare time is a keen runner.
