Senior Sergeant Dagmar Andersen has worked with Victoria Police across a range of different roles, including practitioner and supervisor in the themes of sexual offences and child abuse (SOCAU). As a manager, Dagmar supported the transition towards an investigative focus for SOCAU and then in various police station command roles, has enhanced the response to family violence in Melbourne’s west and inner south. More recently, as a family violence training officer, her role included development of specialist investigator training and being embedded into operations, she gained a unique insight into the ways of working and complexity of police response – particularly in risk management of perpetrator risk. As well as police qualifications, Dagmar has held an ongoing passion for ways of working with children and young people, in their safety and support around behaviours of concern that can sometimes lead to later criminal offending. With training in psychology and Safe and Together Institute workshops, she holds an optimism that there may well be opportunities to motivate adults who use family violence, to learn new ways of being … particularly if they seek a better future for their children.
