Adrian Geary

Chairperson, Queensland Indigenous Family Violence Legal Service

Adrian Geary is a proud First Nations man of the Bidjara people whose country is located around Springsure and Carnarvon Gorge Range area.  Mr Geary was a Sergeant of police with the Queensland Police Service (QPS) and served in the police service for over 25 years.  Mr Geary separated from the QPS in May 2023 after accepting the Regional Manager position with Department of Treaty, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships, Communities and the Arts.  In the police service former Sergeant Geary was the Officer in Charge of Gordonvale Police Station.  Mr Geary worked in most of his policing career in North Queensland communities, including Townsville, Bowen, Palm Island, Mackay, Yarrabah and Cairns with the majority of his time serving in general duties.  Mr Geary was the founder and Chair of the QPS First Nations Network and has been at the forefront of advocating and promoting First Nations Leadership within the QPS.  

In 2019, Mr Geary was awarded a Commissioner’s Certificate, Corporate Support for his contribution to the QPS expert reference group responsible for developing the QPS bespoke Indigenous artwork entitled ‘Look to the Stars’.  Mr Geary later that year attended Chicago, USA, to accept the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) Community Policing Award on behalf of the Commissioner for the development of the ‘Look to the Stars’ project.  Mr Geary also established the QPS First Nations Advisory Group which meets with the Commissioner of Police every month.  

Mr Geary is the Chairperson of Queensland Indigenous Family Violence Legal Service (QIFVLS) who represent victim/survivors of Domestic and Family Violence and Sexual Assault.  Mr Geary has been a director of QIFVLS for over 12 years.  Mr Geary has worked in the Domestic and Family Violence prevention sector for over 25 years and is passionate about family and community.  Mr Geary is also a facilitator for Strengths Fathers Program.
