Zaffa Christian

Lead Advisor, Safe, Strong Families & Communities, NZ Ministry of Social Development

Zaffa Christian has worked with the Ministry of Social Development (MSD) for the last eight years as part of the Social Action team. The Social Action team is one of three family violence prevention initiatives alongside E Tū Whānau and Pasefika Proud and is most well-known for developing and leading the It’s Not OK campaign. The It’s Not Ok campaign was New Zealand’s all-of-population family violence campaign and is recognised as one of the most successful campaigns in New Zealand. It was also recognised internationally and adopted by several other countries. Zaffa held a key role in the development of the campaigns five-year strategy for change which has a renewed and deeper focus on addressing men’s use of violence against women. She was also the relationship manager for many of the campaign’s key community partners, a role she cherished until her move to lead a new campaign focused on primary prevention for young people.

Zaffa has a long history of working with young people to promote healthy sexuality and relationships and is passionate about supporting young people to Love Better.
