Amy Hunt
2023 Western Australian Apprentice of the Year

Amy Hunt wanted a career that involved working outside, working within a team and experiencing a new challenge every day.

She was drawn to the fast-changing environment of the power industry, studying a Certificate III in ESI—Power Systems—Distribution Cable Jointing, while undertaking her apprenticeship with Western Power.

Amy cites her experience working on low and high voltage electrical cables as having opened her eyes to the implicit value of safety; both on an individual level and within a team.

As the only woman and the youngest cable jointer at her worksite, Amy has brought a new perspective to the team, and credits her training experience with enhancing her leadership and communication skills.

In terms of personal growth, Amy says her work is fulfilling while it has also helped her to grow as an individual.

She is eager to pursue a leadership or management pathway and continually seeks professional development opportunities to fulfil these goals. Amy was awarded Western Power’s 2022 Apprentice of the Year for the commitment to her training.

In 2023, Amy was named the Western Australia Apprentice of the Year and Apprentice of the Year at the Australian Training Awards.
