Andrew “Barney” Barnett is an award winning comedian who has worked in television, radio and live stand up. He is best known to the television and radio audiences by his on-air nickname of Barney.

Andrew’s comedy career began with a bang in 2010 when he made the NSW State Final of Raw Comedy. Since then Andrew has become a fixture of the Sydney comedy scene. Andrew has established himself as a crowd favourite across the Sydney Comedy Scene and beyond. He has performed in cities and towns around Australia and New Zealand. 

In 2013 Andrew was invited by Australian Rock icons the Hoodoo Gurus to host the Comedy Stage at the Sydney leg of their invitational music festival 'Rip it Up'.

Andrew has performed at numerous festivals across Australia, including Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Adelaide Fringe Festival, Perth Comedy Festival and Sydney Fringe Festival and Sydney Comedy Festival. 

In 2015 Andrew won the comedy prize in the ANZ Blue Rooms Competition as part of the Sydney Morning Herald’s prestigious Spectrum Now Festival. In 2016 Andrew was selected to be part of the FRESH program at the Sydney Comedy Festival, which highlights the best emerging comedians in the festival. Andrew’s first television experience was as an audience warm up comedian for numerous television shows on Fox Sports Australia including Monday Nights with Matty Johns, The Cup Runneth Over, Matty Johns’ Big Weekend, NRL 360, The Other Rugby Show and The Professor’s Second Year Syndrome. In 2015 Andrew also performed audience warm up for the National Rugby League’s annual player awards The Dally M Awards. 

In 2017 Andrew became a contributing writer for The Professor’s Second Year Syndrome on Fox League. During that year he appeared in numerous sketches, before becoming a regular on-air presence in the show’s second season (The Professor’s Farewell Tour, 2018) and eventually cohost in its third season (The Professor’s Late Hit, 2019). During this time he got his on-air moniker of ‘Barney’. 

In 2018, Andrew also began appearing as part of Not The NRL News Segment on Sunday Night with Matty Johns, which he continued to do until 2022. 

At the end of 2018, Andrew helped create Fox Cricket’s late night comedy show ‘The Night Watchmen’, with James “The Professor” Rochford. Andrew cohosted the show with The Professor for 2 seasons. 

In 2020, Andrew was also the co-host of Narrow World of Sports, on Fox League and Fox Footy, before it was cut short due to the covid pandemic. 

Like all comedians Andrew has also tried his hand at podcasting. He is the cohost of the Professor and Barney Podcast, which gained popularity not only online, but also on the Kayo Sports streaming platform, whilst the boys were working at Fox Sports. Andrew is also the host of his own interview podcast Crowd Work Cast. 

Andrew can be heard across NSW and QLD on SEN radio, where he is a regular presenter. 

Andrew has a relaxed, affable style which belies a razor sharp wit. His comedy is filled with insightful observations and witty anecdotes. Andrew is sure to be a crowd favourite wherever he performs.
