Catherine Young

Occupational Therapist, Odyssey Consulting


Catherine Young is an Occupational Therapist (OT) who has extensive experience in pressure injury prevention and wheelchair seating prescription. She is a senior clinician at Royal Melbourne Hospital, working with young adults, who have Spina Bifida, transitioning into adult services. Her private practice has spanned 30 years, working with clients who have complex needs, and are high risk, working within an interdisciplinary, client and family centred framework. She has been instrumental in setting the recommended minimum standards for hospital foam mattresses in Victoria. This was first published in the Victorian Quality Council State wide PUPPS report 2003, and then ongoing representation, as a member of the international small working group, advising on the support surface section. This work was published in the NPUAP/EPUAP/Pan Pacific Clinical Practice Guideline 2014. She consults and conducts pressure injury prevention workshops and education to government, health facilities, and industry, critically analysing equipment and advising on specifications for the disability sector.
