Cathy Young is an Occupational Therapist (OT) with a specialty in pressure injury prevention and wheelchair seating prescription.
Her private practice focus has spanned 35 years, working with complex, high-risk clients, within an interdisciplinary, holistic client and family centred framework. She has jointly been instrumental in defining the recommended minimum standards for hospital foam mattresses in Victoria. This work was published in the International (NPUAP/EPUAP/Pan Pacific) Clinical Practice Guideline 2014 and 2019.
She consults to government, health facilities, and industry, critically analysing equipment and advising on equipment specifications for people with a disability.
She has presented at State and National Conferences – including Oceanic Seating Symposium (Aust and NZ) 2023, Australian technology Suppliers Association 2023, Australian Assistive Technology Conference Nov 2024.
Cathy conducts pressure injury prevention workshops and education to OT’s, Nurses, Physiotherapists, and other allied health staff.
She is a senior clinician at Royal Melbourne Hospital, specializing in pressure injury prevention for young adults with Spina Bifida, and other developmental disabilities .
