Russell Vickery (he/him) is one of Australia's most prominent LGBTQ domestic and family violence advocates. He is the LGBTIQ representative on both Victorian Government’s Family Violence Victim Survivor Advisory Council and also the Department of Justice Victims of Crime Consultation Committee. For the past decade he has stood on stage to tell and sing his story of surviving intimate partner violence in a queer relationship over 9 different season runs and to thousands of audience members with his stage show, “My Other Closet the Cabaret”. Because of this, he has also appeared in many news and media outlets reaching millions of people across the country. In 2018 he was the first LGBTIQ victim/survivor to share their lived experience on Australian national television when he appeared on ABC’s ‘You Can’t Ask That’. He was recently invited back by the show’s producers to sit down with Rosie Batty for ABC’s ‘One Plus One’ (watch to the left or via ABC iView).
