Lou Baker

Brisbane Youth Service

Lou Baker is the Senior Manager of Young Women, Families, and Safe Relationships at Brisbane Youth Service. She leads the K.I.N.D Program, originally developed by South Australia Youth Justice, which stands for Kinship, Improving Relationships, No Violence, and Developing Skills. This intervention is for young people who use violence in relationships, acknowledging that many of them have experienced violence within their family of origin. Lou emphasizes the importance of justice interventions that are trauma-informed, developmentally appropriate, and cognizant of the fact that young people’s brains are still growing and adaptable. Lou will explore the broader issue of over criminalizing at-risk youth and the value of targeted interventions that can alter their life trajectories.
