Lani Kahn

The Salvation Army

Lani’s Social Work career began within the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing. Over the course of eight years, she worked across multiple programs as a Child Protection Practitioner, Placement Coordinator and Targeted Care Packages Planner. During this time, she developed a suite of skills and competencies required to meaningfully engage complex clients, undertake effective crisis interventions and complete comprehensive risk assessments, all with the overarching aim of achieving greater safety and wellbeing for the communities most vulnerable.

This passion has extended to her work at The Salvation Army. Commencing in September 2017, she served as a senior specialist family violence practitioner within the Alexis Family Violence Response Model. Situated within the Prahran Police’s Family Violence Investigation Unit (FVIU), Lani’s role was to engage and offer support to victim survivors, after a recent and serious incident of family violence. Lani achieved many positive outcomes by providing intensive, innovative and holistic short term interventions to both women and children.

More recently, Lani was appointed as a Practice Lead within the Alexis Program. Lani has been instrumental in shaping and refining best practice and procedures by providing expert advice and contributing to the implementation of operational changes. Lani works closely with the eight Alexis specialist family violence practitioners, aiding in capacity building by fostering the development of skills and competencies.
