Dr Kathomi Gatwiri

Dr Kathomi Gatwiri is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Health at SCU, an ARC DECRA Fellow at the Centre for Children & Young People (CCYP), President of the peak body Australian Women & Gender Studies Association (AWGSA) and a practising psychotherapist. 

Kathomi is one of Australia’s leading Afro-diasporic scholars whose award-winning interdisciplinary research investigates the intersecting topics of 1) trauma and migrant wellbeing, 2) race and racialisation, and 3) decolonisation in teaching and research scholarship. Kathomi's work strongly focuses on experiences of minoritisation and experiences of people assigned categories of difference in society. Her work has been shared by thousands both nationally and internationally and fostered useful discourses on intersectional practices and processes of racialisation. 

Kathomi is the co-founder of Femicide Count- Kenya. This platform collates all reported deaths of Kenyan women who have been killed through violence and the Founder and Director of Healing Together. This service provides accessible, culturally affirming therapeutic support for people impacted by racial trauma.
