Abbey Newman

Forensicare

Abbey is an AASW registered Accredited Family Violence Social Worker. She has worked within the family violence sector for 17 years. Her carer has predominately been within the Justice system and has also included, direct practice with victim/survivors and people choosing to use violence, therapeutic interventions, education, policy, professional development and men’s behaviour change services. 

Abbey was employed by the AASW as a subject matter expert and facilitator to design and facilitate their "Advanced supervision program." This program received the diamond in the LearnX Awards Ceremony in the categories: Best Learning Model and Best Learning and talent development. The Program was a finalist in the Australian Institute of Training and Development (AITD) Awards 2022 and was Highly Commended in the Best Capability Building Program.

Abbey is currently employed at Forensicare and is enjoying the challenging intersection between family violence and mental health. Supporting Forensicare's alignment to the MARAM framework and workforce capacity building. 

Abbey operates a private practice providing:

- Expert witness testimony and specialist family violence court reports for victim/survivors

- Clinical supervision 

- Consultation 

- Professional Development and Training

- Counselling focused on recovery from the impacts of family violence

 - Generalist counselling sessions, with special interest in anxiety/depression, adult ADHD, trauma recovery and relationship dynamics

Abbey lectures at RMIT University (Social Work – Masters and Undergraduate) ‘Working with violence and abuse.’
