Professor Calum Drummond AO


Calum John Drummond, D.Sc., Ph.D., is Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research and Innovation and Vice President at RMIT University and an RMIT research professor.

Prior to his current appointments he has been Group Executive for CSIRO Manufacturing, Materials and Minerals, and Chief of CSIRO Materials Science and Engineering. Drummond has made outstanding contributions to research and innovation through leadership, governance and advisory roles, and to early and mid career researcher development.

He has actively managed large organisational patent portfolios to deliver value to society. He holds 4 granted US patents, and has published over 200 refereed journal articles and book chapters. He has commercialised technologies as the inaugural Vice President Research at CAP-XX, and through many collaborative projects between CSIRO and companies. Amongst his awards, he is a recent recipient of the Victoria Prize for Science and Innovation from the Australian state government of Victoria, and the Ian Wark Medal and Lecture from the Australian Academy of Science and the Weickhardt Medal from the Royal Australian Chemical Institute for contributions to the economic prosperity of Australia. He is the recipient of CSIRO’s three highest awards for outstanding research achievement and business excellence. Drummond is a Fellow of the US National Academy of Inventors, the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering, and a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
