Abstract submission information and guidelines

Deadline for abstract submissions: 15 November 2019

Presentation types

Abstract submitters can choose to submit under the following categories for both oral presentation, and poster opportunities. As an additional step for this conference, all presentation formats and abstracts must address the question: Where to next? in the context of future research, technology or application of issues discussed in their presentation. Examples of this are shared in the templates below.

1. 20-minute oral presentation

Talks will report on completed research and present concrete outcomes and conclusions. Oral presentation time is 15 minutes plus 5 minutes of discussion. Speakers must address the question – where to next? in the context of future research, technology or application of issues discussed in their presentation.

2. Poster only and 5-minute interactive poster presentations

The abstract review committee will allocate whether a poster will be interactive, or poster-only. For interactive posters, at the allocated time, individuals must be next to their poster and will have 5 minutes to present their reserach. A two-minute discussion will follow. Poster-only means a traditional static poster that will be on display throughout the conference. Posters should follow a similar outline to the abstracts. Presenters must address the question – where to next? in the context of future research, technology or application of issues discussed, on their posters.

Themes

Abstract submissions will be asked to nominate which theme(s) best describe their research. Submissions will ideally address one or more of the following themes:

  • Healthy brain ageing
  • Exercise fatigue
  • Cerebrovascular physiology
  • Motor learning/decision-making
  • Schooling and childhood development
  • Occupational and military settings
  • Technology development
  • Clinical conditions (e.g. Alzheimer’s, Parkinsons, stroke, mental health, concussion)
  • Athletic Performance (e.g. sports psychology, recovery, training and/or competition strategies)

Abstract submission guidelines

  • All submissions must be submitted in English. Please ensure you thoroughly check your submission for spelling and grammatical errors as accepted abstracts will be posted online as per your submission.
  • A concise and factual abstract is required. Abstracts are to be structured and be 300 words or less. References, author and affiliation information and abstract titles are not included in the word count.
  • Abstracts must not contain bullet points, pictures, charts, diagrams or tables. Acronyms are strongly discouraged.
  • Ensure that all author information (names, affiliations) is included and entered correctly and that all authors have approved their inclusion in the submission.
  • All headings (including the Title) should be in sentence-case only, not in capital letters
  • Presenters will be notified of acceptance in December 2019. Those nominating for an oral presentation, if unsuccessful, may be offered the opportunity to present as a poster.
  • To ensure the integrity of the program and guarantee the program will be as advertised once released, we will require all presenters to register and commit to attending the Conference by Friday 24 January 2020. Any presenters not registered for the Conference by this deadline will not have their abstract included in the program.

Original research will be prioritised, and abstracts should use the following sub-headings:

  • Objectives
  • Design
  • Methods
  • Results
  • Conclusions, and
  • Where to next?

The Conference Committee will give priority to the following criteria when reviewing the abstracts:

  • Abstracts must report scientific quantitative or qualitative results. Submissions without results will be permissible for poster presentations but will not be allocated oral presentations.
  • The quality of the research and conclusions drawn
  • The relevance of the work to conference delegates and themes
  • The introduction of new and innovative concepts not previously canvassed or fully explored
  • Addressing the “where to next” question?
